The Pie Plate Cometh: New Greenpoint Shop Opens Soon

BBQ Pork Galette

Pie: It’s not just for dessert any more. Handmade sweet and savory pies are set to arrive in Greenpoint this June when Pie Corps, a darling of the greenmarkets, sets up shop on Driggs Avenue with seasonally inspired pies sourced from local farms. These popular made-from-scratch pies were previously only available at the Hester Street and New Amsterdam Markets, or by order on their website.

Following their mantra, “From farm to pie plate and beyond,” Pie Corps is on a mission to offer delectable, high quality products, all locally sourced. No ingredient travels more than 500 miles to reach the pie plate: The flour for their crusts is organic and milled in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and the best seasonal fresh fruit and pristine vegetables are sourced from local farms in upstate New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Current seasonal spring pies include caramelized onion and goat cheese, garlicky greens and feta, and a beef and homemade kimchi pie full of natural probiotics (shown mid-production at left). Sweet pies with a creative twist include apple whiskey crumb or lemon buttermilk. Pie Corps doesn’t naturally sweeten their pies; they use cane sugar, so be sure to approach your slice as a treat.

Choose between deep-dish 6-inch pies, hand pies, or adorable Mason jar pies (you can take the jar home and reuse it) for your pie fix in Greenpoint this summer.
